Easy Tomato Sauce
Build a deeply flavorful pomodoro sauce in a super short amount of time using sliced onions, crushed tomatoes, herbs, and olive oil. Serve this all-purpose sauce with leftover pasta, use it as a dipping sauce for mozzarella sticks or crusty bread, or store it in the freezer for the next time you’re making a lasagna.

Ingredients
- ½ (60g) yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 sprig of thyme
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 14oz (400g) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 basil leaves, thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Preparation
- Place the onion, thyme, and oil into the Anyday. Cover with the lid (knob lifted). Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, or until onions have softened.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and basil and continue to cook for 4 minutes, or until the tomatoes begin to bubble.
- Mash the ingredients with a potato masher or fork. You may also blend the sauce with a blender or immersion blender if you like your sauce smoother.
- Season with salt and butter.
Serving suggestions & tips
- Add pasta to the sauce and finish with grated parmesan cheese.
- Add garlic powder along with the onions for a richer flavor.
- Add frozen meatballs alongside the crushed tomatoes.
- Drizzle in some heavy cream at the end for a silky smooth finish.
- Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
