Taiwanese Braised Pork (Rou Zao Fan)
Tomatoes and chicken are cooked together to make a delicious, slightly sweet sauce, then the chicken is broiled to brown and crisp the skin.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (canola, sunflower, corn, etc)
- 1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
- ¼ (60g) medium onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup (90g) shiitake mushrooms, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
- 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
- ¼ cup shaoxing wine (Chinese cooking wine)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon cornstarch
- 8 oz (225g) ground pork
- Scallions to garnish, thinly sliced
Preparation
- Add the oil, ginger, onion, mushrooms, and Chinese five spice into the Anyday dish. Cover with the lid (knob lifted). Cook in the microwave for 2 minutes, or until the onions are soft.
- Add the soy sauce, shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Continue cooking uncovered for 3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Add the ground pork and break it up into smaller pieces with 2 forks or a spatula.
- Continue cooking uncovered for 4-5 minutes, or until the sauce is thick and coats the meat evenly.
- Sprinkle some scallions over the pork and enjoy.

- Enjoy with steamed rice.
- Great recipe for a sloppy joe alternative.
